About Banila Co
Banila Co opened its first store in Seoul's Myeong-dong in 2005 as the cosmetics arm of the Korean fashion group F&F, with a simple idea: makeup should look flawless and come off effortlessly. That second half became its legacy. In 2006 the brand introduced Clean It Zero, a sherbet-textured balm that melts into oil on dry skin, dissolves waterproof makeup and sunscreen in one step and rinses away with water, and it has since sold more than 100 million tubs worldwide, about one every three seconds.
Today Banila Co describes itself as "skincare for makeup": formulas that help skin bounce back from a full face. Zero Balance Technology, the brand's blend of botanicals that cleanses deeply without stripping the skin's own moisture, sits at the heart of every Clean It Zero, while each edition targets a different skin: Mandarin-C for brightening, Tea Tree-EX with gentle acids for pores, and Ginseng-Glow for dry, dull skin. Oily, combination or breakout-prone skin: Pore Clarifying, with tea tree and a gentle BHA/PHA blend that loosens blackheads. Dull or uneven tone on dry-to-combination skin: Brightening, the lighter jelly balm with mandarin oil and a vitamin C derivative. Dry, mature or winter skin: Nourishing, the richest edition with ginseng root and berry, shea butter and oat. All three remove waterproof makeup and are followed by a water-based cleanser.
Is Banila Co vegan and cruelty-free?+
Partly. The current Clean It Zero balms we carry, Brightening, Pore Clarifying and Nourishing, are certified vegan formulas and carry the V-Label mark, but the brand as a whole is not fully vegan. Banila Co is also not listed as cruelty-free by independent trackers, because it sells in mainland China, where animal testing can be required, and holds no Leaping Bunny or PETA certification.
